Organizer Patrick Murray gave an emotional thank you to all who contributed to the success of the the Black Balloon Benefit on March 5. He estimated the event raised about $5,000, but stressed that the purpose of the benefit went far beyond fundraising.
"This is about spreading awareness. This is about helping each other. This is about preventing...future generations from dealing with this," said Murray in the Facebook video below.
Murray organizes the fundraiser every year in honor of his brother who passed away due to a drug overdose. Proceeds benefit SOS Berks' efforts to fight the opioid epidemic in Berks County.
